Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. has commenced sample product shipment of a thin Thunderbolt cable that has an approximately 25% smaller outer diameter than the conventional Thunderbolt cable. This product will be displayed at Intel Corporation's booth (Central Hall Booth #7252) during the Consumer Electronics Show held by the Consumer Electronics Association in Las Vegas from January 8 to 11, 2013.
Sumitomo Electric has developed Thunderbolt cable based on Intel Corporation's technical specifications. The Company launched its electrical Thunderbolt cable in April 2012 and started mass production of its optical Thunderbolt cable in December 2012. These products are receiving favorable reviews from the market.
The newly developed thin Thunderbolt cable is 3.2 mm in diameter, which is 1.0 mm thinner than the conventional cable, and provides highly reliable data transmission at a high speed of 10 Gbps.
This compact design makes it easy to carry the cable with portable devices by winding it around them.
