Audible Launches First iPad App

Related: Audible, App, iPad, News

Audible.com today announced the release of two major improvements to the Audible service. The first is a landmark update to the Audible player for iOS, extending the existing app's natively supported devices to include the original iPad, iPad2 and new iPad Mini. In more important news for Audible customers, Audible's celebrated iPhone app has been redesigned and enhanced to make the listening experience on the iPhone even more powerful.

New iPad App

Audible's new tablet-optimized experience takes advantage of the iPad's larger screen to deliver a visually stunning and more engaging library browsing and playback experience. "More than 20 percent of Audible customers already use Audible's iPhone app on the iPad," said Ajay Arora, VP Mobile Applications. "We're now delivering a vastly improved listening experience for this quickly growing segment of Audible customers, which is also great news for anyone who's always wanted to try the Audible service on an iPad."

Audible's new interface uses a combination of established and custom design patterns, resulting in a user-friendly app that will be familiar to iPad and iPhone owners. In addition to an improved browsing experience, the app's new grid-view library layout focuses on audiobooks' cover art, offering at-a-glance perusal, while also supporting all-important library management features.

New Look for iPhone

Audible's iPhone update delivers a fresh new design for iPhone that refines the overall user experience and maintains close visual consistency with the new iPad app. "Audible customers download audiobooks to their iPhones so that they can listen wherever they are, so that they'll have more time to enjoy books. We want to help make this listening time the best it can be. Our new iPhone interface is designed to deliver a more streamlined, intuitive, and engaging listening experience," said Arora.
